Story

Words and Music by Timothy Suckow, written in 2008.

Inspired by the true story of a friend during my military enlistment who uploaded a clip to social media of herself dancing. Her style was rather exotic in nature and she became famous on the base with local contractors who constantly asked her to display her moves. One day someone complained about the video after viewing it. Unfortunately she had tagged the video with exactly where she was stationed. The command decided the video was not in bad taste, but asked her to take it down anyway. It wasn't such a bad thing that it was deleted, since she felt she was being harassed by everyone asking her to "dance girl, dance!"

This is the remix version that first appeared on the now discontinued "Made for Radio" EP.

Lyrics

(verse 1)
Browse to the Tube for something to see
There's a girl dancing 'round so blissfully
Inspiring to watch and stirring to see
'Cause the girl on the screen lives next to me
High and low all up in your room
I think I could learn to love you too
If this was real only time will tell
You might just have something to sell
(chorus)
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance (they say)
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance
(verse 2)
Time goes by for the leading light
But they ask you to hide it away
To idolize or fraternize
They seem to think you've misbehaved
The star that was born is the object of scorn
In every conceivable way
In someone's eyes you're a fantasy
And it intrudes on your night and day
(chorus)
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance (they say)
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance (they say)
Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance (dance girl dance)
(finale)
High and low all up in your room
I think I could learn to love you too
If this was real only time will tell
You might just have something to sell
